Bluff mom and kids held at gunpoint
A mother and her children were held up at gunpoint in a home
invasion on the Bluff yesterday.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said three
armed men had climbed over a wall to gain entry onto the Marine Drive property
at just before 5pm.
“The gang then walked into the house through the unlocked
kitchen door and held up the mother and her children. The robbers fled in the
family’s car with jewellery, cellphones, a video recorder and cash. There were
no injuries reported,” he said.
Brighton Beach SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson advised residents to always ensure that their
properties are adequately secured.
“Locking security gates when you are at home during the day
and in the evening, and installing layered security such as an electric fence
and outdoor beams in the garden, provides an early warning system that can buy
you time in an emergency. These multiple barriers act as a deterrent, making it
more difficult for intruders to enter your property undetected, removing the
element of surprise criminals rely on when committing house robberies,” he
said.
