BREAKING NEWS: Woman (86) shot in robbery at Norkem Mall
It is believed she had withdrawn money prior to the attack

A woman believed to be 86 years old had been airlifted from Norkem Mall after being shot by armed robbers just after 12pm.

Information is still sketchy but it is believed she had withdrawn money shortly before she has been attacked.

According to MML Security’s Ryno Opperman and Robert Thoms, they found the woman on Quintus Van Der Walt Drive just behind the Spur.

She was wounded in the arm but the bullet went through her lung. She was next to her 1400 Nissan bakkie.

Netcare 911 and ER24 paramedics were at the scene and she was airlifted by Netcare’s helicopter.

HE elderly woman shot twice and robbed just outside Norkem Mall on Friday afternoon is in a critical condition.

The incident took place on the corner of Quintus van der Walt Street and James Wright Avenue in Norkem Park just behind the Spur.


The woman was airlifted by a the Netcare2 helicopter and taken to Arwyp after suffering bullet wounds to her shoulder and chest.

According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Athlenda Mathe, the incident took place at around 12:30pm.

“When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene, we found the woman lying next to her vehicle,” said Mathe.

Mathe said after assessment, the helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

“The critically wounded woman was airlifted to a level 1 trauma facility,” explained Mathe.

It is believed the woman had withdrawn money shortly before she was attacked and robbed of her bag by four men driving a black BMW.

“Reports from the scene indicate she was robbed off an undisclosed amount of money,” pointed out Mathe.

MML’s Robert  Thoms, who was driving an MML vehicle, lost control and hit a lamp post while chasing after the perpetrators. The robbers are still at large.
