A man was shot dead in an alleged hijacking incident in Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng late on Friday night, paramedics said.
Paramedics from ER24 were called to the scene on Frikkie Meyer Boulevard where they found a man with a fatal gunshot wound, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said on Saturday.
The circumstances surrounding the incident were unclear, but it was understood from a woman and her daughter that they were hijacked and kept in the vehicle along with an unknown number of suspects.
“The woman explained to paramedics that they were driven around for some time until the father noticed a police vehicle and attempted to draw their attention. It is believed that it was during this time that he was shot.
“Police noticed the incident and managed to pull the vehicle off the road. The mother and her daughter were assessed on [the] scene. They did not sustain any injuries,” Vermaak said.
